Our final project was to find a student in Mrs. Shaw's 4th hour photography class and interview them. We also were required to get BRoll. We interviewed a student named Nicole Shapiro. This process was very fun because we got to choose our own partners and go out on our own to get what we needed to finish. I feel like Cam Stefek and I did a good job on this project. Our natural sound at the beginning was a little shacky but other than that, it was a solid project. Overall this class was very fun and I enjoyed it very much.
I really enjoyed doing this project. The whole idea of finding your own news stories off of reliable websites and then turning them into news briefs. Also practicing to make is between the required time made it more difficult and we had to work hard to keep it within the requirements while cutting some things out.
Working with my Partner Keimon was a lot better because we could split up the work and help each other out . If one of us made a mistake the other would help them correct it. The best part was going into the Studio to record it. This was a lot of fun to sit behind the anchor desk and read our own stories that we wrote. This interview project was a big step forward in my High School Journalism experience. It taught me the importance of finding a good interview subject that when people watch it, they will want to learn about what the expert is talking about. I also learned that it is always good to get too much broll just in case you were to ever need it. The camera work is also very important to be able to have a good interview, you want to have a steady hand to hold the camera so it doesn't shake. I also figured out you can get some of the best interview footage when you ask the last question, "Is there anything else you would like to add" because there is no restriction to what they can say.
It is important to think of how, where and what will happen during an interview. You also have to think of the lighting and how you will dress during an interview. Normally you don't want to do an interview in an office with a lot of distractions and want a backdrop that suits the theme of the interview.
There are many things that can help Journalists become better Storytellers. One thing you can do it have people show emotion in your videos, have visual appeal and some type of action and movement. Of course good audio always makes a video better and so does the characters. The movie also has to be in a good location and has good focus. As always, a beginning, middle, and end are critical for a good movie. Natural Sounds and Sound Bites give the video better sound effects. These are just some ideas to help out a fellow Journalist to become a better storyteller.
